Goodbye Nan

Neil Kirwan

Psychopomp, from the Greek word Psychopompos which translates, conductor of souls.

“Hello Love” She said.

"How are you?”

“I’m good thanks, how are you?”

“I’m ok. Feeling better.”

“Yes, you look a lot better now you’ve shed your body.”

She looks at me, a look of peculiarity crossing her face.

“I’m not sure where your mum is?”

“She’s back on earth.”

“What do you mean… Back on earth?”

“You’ve died.”

“What… what rubbish you talk Neil.” Her head shaking with irritation as her eyes narrowed.

“Look all around you, do you see the fog everywhere?”

A worried look now replaces the initial annoyance, I link her and we walk slowly at first, until the fog lifts and gives way to woodland. Over bridges and rivers we cross as we chat about the mundane everyday things. Finally, we begin to wind up a mountain side.

“Look at the view from up here.” I say

“It’s beautiful isn’t it.” the soul before me now visibly shining.

“When was the last time you climbed a mountain?”

“I know, very clever… all this time I was so afraid, and I didn’t even realise it had happened in the end. I figured it out some time ago.”

“How do you feel?”

The light starts to glow.

“It’s time to cross over.”

“I follow the light don’t I.” A statement more than it was a question.

“Yes, if you want to, it’s up to you. You can decide if you want to come back or move on, that will all be explained.”

“I can come back?”

“Yes, you don’t need to decide just yet, I know there may be a place with us still available if you want it. You'd be most welcome”

“Thank you love.”

“Goodbye Nan.”

“Goodbye Neil.”

“One last thing before you go…

“I’m Sorry

Please Forgive me

Thank You

I Love you.”

See you soon x
